In 334 BC, Alexander the Great crossed the Hellespont and conquered the known “world”. His hammer and anvil military tactics seem obviously effective now, but can we be sure that we’re not missing today’s Phalanx or Cavalry technology breakthrough?

Often in modernity, we can find ourselves short-sighted due to the personal closeness of our topics. It seems that every generation considers its own position in history particularly special and enlightened. Taking a step back to learn from the successes and mistakes of a more distant past can give us a healthy amount of perspective.

Tech G(r)eeks is here to take a deep dive into Alexander’s use of Strategic Information Systems as a microcosm for modern developments. The rationale is that this longer-sighted perspective will allow for more sober discussion of these systems, power, technology, etc. in the 21st century.

Using this cross-disciplinary approach we hope to achieve a more creative exploration of our topics.

Saskia is saddened by the hatred and anger in the world. She wants everyone to get along and will sweet talk her way to get there. She believes people are born inherently good and it’s the world around them that turns them bad. Don’t get her wrong though, she’s no fool. As a curious cynic, she questions everything before jumping to conclusions.

Mykola’s fantasies include being Alexander The Great’s right-hand man, not to work alongside him but rather to look at his flaws and shortcomings and being able to then offer sound advice. Before he offers any recommendations he would try to look at something from all angles, of which the primary lens would be an objective and rational one.

Mykola tends to see opportunity in a lot of things that he puts his eye on, this can go as deep as the human psyche, which interestingly enough, cannot be seen by the naked eye. Qualitative analysis helps him develop questions which can then be quantitatively answered. Mykola is someone who will do his best to hear everyone out before he can offer his opinion. Metaphorically speaking, we have two ears and one mouth for a reason. A parting question from Mykola: “Why do nice guys finish last?” Nice guys just need a little bit of innovation in their approach.

Educational Background: Computer Science and Business student setting the bar high with his self-appointed name (the only real grounds being in assonance).

Equipped with deep flowing knowledge in both Business and IT, he’ll bring the same dual-discipline razor-sharp insights to Alexander’s escapades which previously awarded him such honours as “fair play lad” from one of his mates and “you’re a good one for the study” from his gran.

Struck by lightning as a child, many claim Zeus himself has gifted Sean with his acute knowledge for strategic information systems. However, his disciples know that this knowledge was passed on to him by his infamous tutor, Diana Wilson.
