The Role of image and point of view in the Story Rock on by Pat Cadagin. In the introduction of the story we see that the Narrator is reminiscing about his fond memories as a child and how sitting a certain way reminds him of his childhood and what it’s like to be a kid. I think that role of image in this story particularly lies in the image of the Narrator’s character. This character’s age is a large part of his image. In this story he identifies himself in the rock and roll scenes and he constantly mentions his age as a reminder of how important that is to his image. I think that this is a very interesting concept that the author is trying to discuss here, which is about the role that age plays in life and how it affects people’s time enjoying the hobbies and pastimes that they love to do. Clearly for the narrator that hobby is rock and roll and he makes conscious efforts throughout the story to establish himself as not only a veteran of the rock and roll scene but someone who really identifies as a rock and roller and I just thought that was a pretty interesting way to write a character in this story.
