Week 6: Tech Journal | The Punk in Cyberpunk | Stupid by Ashnikko
One time I experienced something that I would call an aesthetics of the extreme was when I first listened to the song “Stupid” by Ashnikko and watched its music video. I first heard this song a couple of years ago when I was in middle school and at the time I wasn’t really exposed to super sexual content. This song was a trending song on TikTok at the time and that’s where I first heard it. It was only a small part of the song, but it was catchy so I listened to the whole song and was shocked. The song made me uncomfortable with lyrics like:
I know you think about me in the shower
PornHub in your browser
Fantasize about the pussy power
Think about me with your hand down your trousers.
It was a bit off-putting because I also thought of these sexual things as bad, but I really like the message of the song. The music video also shows the aesthetics of the extreme. It is very violent, showing a girl with blood all over her going door to door killing the boys on her list. When I first watched the music video I thought it was so bloody and gory for the song, but in reality, it fits so well. I learned from this experience that even if a song makes me uncomfortable or shocked doesn’t mean it’s a bad song, it means I need to look deeper into it.
