What is reality?
I think that cyberpunk and it’s representation in the matrix is very true to a lot of aspects of what we have been reading throughout the year. There are many examples of allusion and references to different stories of cyberpunk. I think the biggest difference in the Matrix as opposed to other cyberpunk stories is how the matrix, and plugging into a physical space works in this film as opposed to other cyberpunk stories. In the matrix it is established that everyone is sort of pre-programmed into a simulation and sustained by pods in the real world. Which is an interesting point because from the other cyberpunk stories we see the average person exists in the real world and the. There are hackers and other individuals tapped into the matrix or the online realm by choice. I find that to be the aspect that sets this apart. I feel like the matrix and it’s ability to make the viewer question their own reality based on the concepts of the film. The matrix’s view on reality and how perception can change everything is very interesting and I think it can be applied to real life in a more metaphorical way than in a literal way.
