I’ve been thinking a lot about social media being the cigarettes of our time, but like so many of us, I still get a lot out of it. Now that it’s spring in New York, I’m inspired to reset some bad habits around my work and my phone.

Here’s what’s been working for me:

I’m reading more.

1. Putting my working hours in my email signature, like this:

Allison Esposito Medina
CEO + Founder of Tech Ladies
Working Hours: M-F 9am-6pm EST

This simple change has helped me actually unplug and end my day. (s/o to Aleia Walker who I learned this from!)

2. Sleeping without my phone

I started putting my phone in another room where I can still hear the ringer. This forces me to sleep without it and get up early to shut it off (win/win).

I allow myself the phone on weekends which now feels like a weird luxury.

3. Books

Now that I don’t have a phone to read in bed, I’ve been able to get back into devouring books. I love paper books, but I got a Kindle so I can read in bed without waking my husband.

Have you tried a digital detox? What’s worked for you? If so, send me your tips and tricks in this thread.
