What do you want to learn in 2017?

It’s the new year. More like a month into the new year. Of course, I’m already certain of what many are doing now. Planning those special resolution-busting plans. Or practically breaking said resolutions as we speak. To the chosen few or some of you tech folks, there are new things to do and learn in 2017. Techmasters is no different. Not the countdown you were expecting from us, I bet, but we’ve got a few suggestions on the high tech tip.

.NET is still something to muck with

2 — Asp.net core. I have been working some time with .net Web API. And I love it. Now, asp.net core looks really promising. As a C# lover, it should be fun to actually have something that can really be multi-platform and mainstream with C#. — @fabio_franco

Microsoft’s code baby and near code to well-versed Object Oriented Programming standards: ASP.NET and C#. Personally, I had a great time with C# to the point of respecting it when I learned and used ASP.NET 1.0. The Visual Basic language can also be used with .NET, but it is not as elegant or relative as the C# representation, for anyone more familiar with web. JavaScript and PHP members pending. .NET is still special regardless of the various JavaScript frameworks that have been created from the sudden explosion of the three years.

Bots, Bots, Bots

Also in 2017, I’d like to make a bot possibly. 🤖 but the onboarding for Slack bots seems grim. — enrico

As it was written from the holy scriptures of Lord Ahmad Nassri’s Twitter feed: 2016 was the year of the Bots. AI and chat engine implementations especially. There has been a lot of talk regarding bots. From chat engines for gaming streams to sophisticated customer service apps, bots have made their presence known last year and still hold the relevant candle in the realm of tech.

Angular and React are cool, apparently

@ahmadnassri This month’s topic is great. I think it’s particularly special because our trade evolves and branches too quickly. It can be really overwhelming. What’s the next great framework to learn? If I go this way, will I be successful? More importantly, am I going to enjoy it? After learning Angular, I am looking forward to making friends to React.js (the new, not so new, cool kid on the block). But then, probably sooner than later, another cool kid will show up and drive front-end trends. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I don’t really enjoy front-end stuff, I enjoy back-end coding much more, but still have to keep up with all other technologies of the stack. — fabio_franco

Both Angular and React.js have been making waves this year. Angular had a great time making the jump to about 3–4 iterations before the year was out. And here I am nearly master 1.4535-something-something. Boy, does the time fly! React.js also has a similar following and through what I have seen, a nearly more understandable code implementation. Both are amazing at organizing JS and making amazing applications.

Game Maker: The Beginning of the Journey

- unity — Node backend — firebase — webgl if I need it — @whitekevin

The Christmas wish list of tech I have chosen to pursue in. After seeing the capabilities of Unity from a JS and React collaboration, I couldn’t help but wonder what I would be able to conjure with them. After my stint with Enchant.js, I figured I’d have a better chance with a better documentation system to read. One of the more important items when it comes learning something new. Here’s to building that indie title I’ve been looking to play for years.
