Google Cloud expands its bet on managed database services

Google released improvements in Spanner, a replication feature for BigTable (feature in beta), Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL (generally available), and a beta for managed Redis. (cloudplatform.googleblog.com)

With new security and intelligent features, the new Gmail means business

You can try the new Gmail now (click the gear icon at the top right, and select “Try the new Gmail”). This release brings a cleaner design, an access to Calendar, Keep and Tasks right from Gmail, and several email tools. You can for example snooze received emails or put a due date on outgoing emails.(www.blog.google)

Opera launches a new mobile browser

Opera Touch navigation is at the bottom of the screen, to make it easy to browse using one hand. They also introduced Flow, which helps you share links between your mobile and desktop browsers. (techcrunch.com)

A One-Minute Attack Let Hackers Spoof Hotel Master Keys

Don’t trust the smart hotel locks! A couple of years ago the Onity locks had a vulnerability that led to a lot of burglaries. This time the F-Secure team found a flaw in the locks from Vingcard. They are not releasing the exploit to avoid the same spike of burglaries that happened when the Onity exploit was released. (www.wired.com)

DDoS-for-Hire Service Webstresser Dismantled

A popular service where one could hire DDos services, WebStresser.org, was taken down by authorities in the U.S., U.K. and the Netherlands. (krebsonsecurity.com)

Google Updates Gun Emoji 🔫

Since 2016, companies have been replacing the gun emoji by a toy water pistol. Google released the update for android. Microsoft will also make an update soon. (blog.emojipedia.org)
