The transformative power of dedicated learning and collaboration

My name is Chioma Nwocha, and I currently work as a Frontend Engineer at Enyata. If you are curious enough to find out how my tech journey began, continue reading.

Although it was a difficult process, I got into the Enyata Academy after a pre-boot camp interview with Mr. Joseph, the COO of Enyata.

After a successful interview, I was invited to the two-week boot camp, where I was introduced to the world of software engineering. Upon being accepted into the boot camp, I got paired with a group of other students, and we proceeded to build a project based on what we had been taught and present it for evaluation.

Getting into the academy proper, I soon realized I needed a lot of time, dedication, and motivation to survive the entire six months of training. From my point of view, I could weigh in on so many of the advantages over the disadvantages, and I was encouraged to take a giant leap toward my dream of becoming a front-end Engineer. The sweet icing on the cake was that we got paid a monthly stipend to learn and become better at software engineering. As of that time, you could count how many Nigerian companies really invested so much in training like this, so I saw myself as one of the very fortunate beneficiaries of this paid opportunity.

Although the money wasn’t the only positive aspect of this opportunity, I fell in love with the people at Enyata. I met people from different backgrounds and cities in Nigeria who shared my passion, making the journey all the more rewarding.

When it came to skill and knowledge acquisition, Enyata Academy didn’t hold back. They exposed us to all the trending technologies, from Git, HTML, CSS, jQuery, JavaScript, and even frameworks like Vue.js and Node.js.

The curriculum didn’t stop at just coding skills I became versed in project management, learned how to design with Figma, and worked on practical applications of soft skills.

The Project Phase

At Enyata Academy, the learning journey transcended mere theoretical knowledge; it was a dynamic and immersive experience enriched with practical projects and exercises that significantly augmented my skill set. In every module across diverse fields, the curriculum embraced hands-on, real-world applications.

For instance, I had the opportunity to explore web design through practical applications, utilizing tools like Figma to craft web pages. Moreover, I delved into the realm of project management, engaging in research and the creation of comprehensive project documentation. Additionally, I ventured into backend development, honing my skills by constructing endpoints using Node.js.

This holistic approach to learning not only expanded my theoretical knowledge but also equipped me with the practical skills and experience necessary to excel in real-world scenarios.

The culmination of my learning experience at Enyata Academy helped me build an admin and student dashboard. This was a comprehensive undertaking that integrated everything I had learned so far, primarily utilizing Vue.js for the frontend and Node.js for the backend.

I saw the project transform from mere ideas on a whiteboard to a fully functioning admin and student dashboard. The sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. This project taught me the power of collaboration, the value of shared skill sets, and the satisfaction of turning a shared vision into reality.

I would also like to point out that one of the most valuable aspects of my Enyata Academy experience has been the instructors’ caliber. I had the privilege of learning from experts in the field who were not only knowledgeable but also passionate about sharing their expertise. They were always there to provide guidance and solutions to any challenges I encountered, making the learning process simpler.

I was always reminded that I was not alone in this journey and that I had a team of experienced individuals ready to help me succeed. It taught me the importance of seeking guidance and mentorship, even when it feels like I am navigating uncharted waters.

Soft Skill Lessons From the Academy

Along with the technical skills, the academy emphasized the importance of effective communication and collaboration. I learned the art of working harmoniously in cross-functional teams, which is crucial for achieving organizational goals. I believe in open and transparent communication, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, and actively listening to colleagues’ ideas and concerns. This approach promotes synergy and ensures that the collective intelligence of the team is harnessed for optimal results.

Problem-solving is another key skill I cultivated at the academy. This problem-solving mindset will enable me to contribute to strategic decision-making, troubleshoot challenges as they arise, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement within your organization.

Furthermore, the academy instilled a strong sense of ethics and professionalism in its students. I learned how to prioritize integrity, reliability, and ethical conduct in all my work. I understand the importance of adhering to industry best practices and complying with relevant regulations and standards. These values align seamlessly with the high standards and ethical principles upheld by your organization.

Post Academy: The growth

Since completing my time at Enyata Academy, I’ve been on a continuous learning journey, and it’s been truly exciting. I’m currently part of a fantastic team where we’re working on real-world projects for clients. Every day is a new opportunity to learn and grow. One of my favorite ways to stay informed is by diving into insightful blog posts. Enyata has a fantastic blog that’s a treasure trove of knowledge. It’s like having a library of industry wisdom at my fingertips.

But it doesn’t stop there. Enyata also offers incredible webinars. These virtual sessions are like mini-conferences. They bring experts right to my screen, sharing their wisdom and answering burning questions. You can get a recap of all the events on the Enyata YouTube channel.

Also, the fantastic community that Enyata fosters. Being part of the community feels like being part of a passionate club. We exchange ideas, ask questions, and learn from each other. It’s an invaluable resource that keeps me inspired.

In addition to my work with the team, I’ve also been working on personal projects. It’s incredible how the skills I gained during my internship with Enyata have empowered me to create and innovate independently.

Conclusion

Enyata Academy was the rock-solid stepping stone I needed for my career. It wasn’t just about skills; it was about the whole package. Looking back, I see a place where dreams took flight, friendships were forged, and futures got a whole lot brighter. I plan to contribute to the tech space by actively applying my technical expertise, fostering collaboration, solving complex problems, and upholding a strong code of ethics. I’m committed to delivering tangible results and being a valuable asset to the team.
