Big Data, Business Intelligence and AI — get some insights into our first Data Expo 💡

Where does our data come from and what do we ultimately do with it? Our P7S1 Data teams as well as our colleagues from Joyn and wetter.com provided answers to all these questions at their first joint Data Expo.

The idea for the internal event was born at the beginning of the year in the Data teams of ProSiebenSat.1 Tech Solutions (PTS) and numerous colleagues gathered to learn more about the work and projects of our data experts. Many of our work processes are data-based or could be — but hardly anyone knows how exactly this data basis is created and what potential it holds.

The aim of the event was therefore to get P7S1 colleagues from different areas excited about the work of our data teams and create a touchpoint for future joint projects.

Hundreds of gigabytes of data serve as the working basis

In the past years, technological change has made it easier than ever to collect large amounts of data from a wide variety of sources. At P7S1, we mainly use our online platforms as well as TV and digital offerings to gather information. This results in several hundred gigabytes of data every day, which in turn serve as the basis for the work of our data experts. How they ultimately analyze and utilize this data always depends on the goal to be achieved.

“In the AI Products area, for example, the data is used to develop AI-based software that supports our colleagues from the entertainment segment in optimally placing and monetizing our content.”

But beyond that, there are also other touchpoints that the teams were able to identify in their discussions at the Data Expo.

Direct exchange, interesting insights and learnings

At 15 different booths, visitors gained deep insights into the daily work of the P7S1 data teams and were able to exchange ideas directly with our experts. The focus of the individual booths ranged from the Group-wide data strategy and the associated value-creation process to the collection and preparation of data and various use cases.

The colleagues from our “BI Products” department gave interesting insights into the self-service tool “mediaFACTs” and showed examples of how they provide internal stakeholders with relevant performance information (KPI) for the linear TV channels as well as for commercials in order to make data-driven decisions, create reports, and provide support for communication issues.

For our data experts, the event was a great success: On the one hand, they were happy about a lot of interested participants who were fascinated by the data preparation and the resulting diverse application possibilities at P7S1. On the other hand, they gained many insights and were able to learn a lot about the needs and requirements of other departments and teams.
