The promise of Brain.fm is enticing and seems to make sense. We’ve all experienced working with music that puts us right in the flow and we’ve all experienced the opposite. For me, music with lyrics, especially easy-to-understand lyrics in my native language, never suited working on complex problems. The more I need to focus, the more I need my music to fade in the background of my mind.

I got Brain.fm because they sent me a marketing email with a coupon for a lifetime subscription at 40% off. That’s it, really.

I was still on their trial and enjoyed it. I also expected their science to keep improving over time, making their music more and more effective. A lifetime of new science-based music sounded good (pun 40% intended).

Does Brain.fm actually help focusing?
