Ford has been sharing its hopes of becoming one of the leaders in the EV space for some time now. Currently, the company doesn’t necessarily hold a bad position, given that its Mustang Mach-E is the best-selling non-Tesla EV in North America. The company is also planning the upcoming releases of the F-150 Lightning and a possible Explorer EV, set to debut in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Additionally, Ford is planning to release new 7 EVs in Europe, and increase global annual EV sales to 600,000 by the end of 2023.

That said, Ford has been slow to ramp up production of its somewhat popular Mustang Mach-E, which could foreshadow what’s to come with Ford’s upcoming products. Also worth mentioning is that, as of 2021, Ford wasn’t even in the top 5 global EV manufacturers. Despite this, the company wishes to hold the number two spot within the next two years. So, that begs the question, does Ford have what it takes to take that spot, or is it just wishful thinking?
