Honda’s Partnership With GM is Finally Paying Off
How the Japanese Automaker Could Secretly Be Winning the EV Race
Although Honda has long been well-known for its hybrid and gas-powered vehicles, it wasn’t until around a month ago that the automaker unveiled its first international EV. Surprisingly, the Honda Prologue is shaping up to be one of the better mainstream offerings on the market.
While many were initially skeptical of how Honda’s partnership with GM would affect the brand, it’s largely thanks to GM’s technology that the Prologue is so compelling. Underpinned by GM’s Ultium platform, and similar in form to the upcoming Chevy Blazer EV, the Prologue boasts 288 horsepower, a range of up to 300 miles, and a max charging speed of 155 kW.
Add to that resume unoffensive styling, an intuitive interior, and a sub-$50,000 starting price, and it seems as though Honda has made one of the best non-Tesla EVs. But, while it’s great that GM’s Ultium platform has enabled Honda to make the Prologue so competitive, is this partnership really as great as it seems to be on paper?
