Is the M2 MacBook Air the Worst Apple Laptop You Can Buy?
Is it Overpriced or Just Misunderstood?
Over the last couple of weeks, Apple’s new MacBook Air has been racking up harsh criticism from many tech reviewers who claim that Apple didn’t do enough to justify a $200 premium over its predecessor. These criticisms primarily highlight how the new Air is plagued by a slow base SSD and an insufficient cooling system, neither of which were problems with the M1 Air. Additionally, some might also point out that, because they’ve been on the market for so long, you can find an M1 MB Air for under $900 on Amazon, increasing its value proposition.
On the flip side, those who defend the M2 Air might argue that most people in the target demographic for an M2 Air would never tap into the chip’s performance enough to notice either the slow SSD or eventual thermal throttling. Rather, this demographic would buy the new Air to enjoy its fresh design, consisting of a new webcam, a larger screen, and MagSafe charging.
But who’s right? Is the M2 Air actually worth its $1200 price tag? Or would most consumers be better off buying the more conservative M1 Air or the more impressive 14" MB Pro?
