Electric vehicles have a problem. They’re all trying to do the same thing!

Every EV prioritizes impressive specs, futuristic styling, a minimalist, tech-laden interior, and a comfortable, quiet ride.

In other words, many automakers have fallen victim to trying to be Tesla 2.0. This means big screens, neck-snapping acceleration, high-tech driver assists, and big, heavy batteries to achieve impressive range figures.

While all of these features are great on paper, they’re not what every consumer wants. For many, EVs lack a sense of driver engagement that comes from the sound and feel of an engine theatrically revving out and shifting through a transmission.

Unfortunately, typical enthusiast brands such as BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, and even Lotus have failed to cater to these consumers. More fortunately, however, is that this absence of engaging performance EVs has left the stage wide open for a new contender to enter the spotlight: the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N.
