When the Polestar 2 originally debuted in 2021, it wasn’t that great of a car. Not only did it start at a demanding $60,000, but it only boasted 233 miles of range, it featured multiple cheap-feeling cloth interiors and, worst of all, not many people actually knew that it existed. For the 2022 model year, Polestar introduced a cheaper FWD variant, which started from only $47,000, but it was rendered practically pointless, due to its dual-motor counterpart falling to just $51,000. The dual-motor variant also boosted its predicted range to 249 miles, while practically everything else stayed the same.

But while it hasn’t been too revolutionary of a car in previous years, Polestar has refreshed this vehicle just enough to make it competitively trade blows with Tesla’s Model 3. With more range, new interior options, and the option for a significant power boost, the Polestar 2 is now among the best Tesla alternatives.

Here’s why.
