With the much-awaited Google Launch event ‘Launch Night in’ just about the corner, here is what all you can expect from the event which is scheduled to be held on 30th September at 11:00 AM PT.

Google is expected to introduce at least 4 devices in this event, of which, one is already well known to the common folks through a lot of leaks and the early launch of its other variant. Yes, we are talking about the Google Pixel 4a 5G here. This article is about what to expect from the event and the devices which are set to launch in the event. Here is the list of the most anticipated products getting launched:

  • Google Pixel 5 - The Flagship
  • Google Pixel 4a(5G)
  • New Google Nest Speaker
  • Google Chromecast with Android TV

Let's start with the one everyone is waiting for:

GOOGLE PIXEL 5

Google’s flagship for this year, the Google Pixel 5 will be the main highlight of the event with a lot of evidence suggesting that Pixel 5Xl might not be in Google’s checklist this year.

Some of the official renders and leaks suggest that like the Pixel 4, it will carry the matte texture on the sides. In fact, the overall body seems to have a similar texture as of now. Here are the ‘onLeaks’ renders which suggest the same. The same renders also suggest that Pixel 5 might be getting rid of the Motion Sense which was introduced earlier in the Pixel 4 series. Here is the image of Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G side by side.

As clear in the above image, the Pixel 5 is actually smaller than the Pixel 4a 5G. Here is another image that was leaked recently suggesting a unique Mint Green color.

Till now there are only these two colors(Just Black and Mint Green) which we can expect as per the leaks but Google may have surprises too. Moving forward, let's go more into the specifications part. Here are the details:

GOOGLE PIXEL 4A(5G)

Being a part of the 4a series, the price for this 5G version is expected to be lower than the flagship version. But, contrary to its name convention, the Google 4A(5G) seems to have features to the flagship Google Pixel 5. This may be the result of google skipping the XL version of Pixel 5.

The 5g enabled phone will have a chipset of Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset similar to Pixel 5 and will in fact have a larger screen than Pixel 5. Google Nest Speaker
Google Nest Speaker

Before the launch vent at Google on 30th September there was a leaked image that popped up on Google9to5 where we saw some pictures of the new Google speaker heading on the top as Nest Audio. Yes, they are going to name it Nest Speaker as part of the ongoing rebranding of previously Google Home speakers. Unlike the earlier versions of home and nest, it will have a portrait orientation rather than landscape.

Colors: Charcoal, Dark Grey, Blue and Pink(maybe)

For those who are not familiar with the Google Nest these home devices are Wi-Fi speakers and can therefore stream music, news directly from your favorite applications. You can access songs, playlists, albums, artists, and podcasts from your favorite music services with just your voice.

Price: $99.99(rumored)

GOOGLE CHROMECAST 4: SABRINA

GOOGLE CHROMECAST 4: SABRINA

It’s one of the cheapest and easiest ways to stream video content right to your TV, from almost any device. It enables you to share your smartphone or laptop’s screen directly onto your TV. With a Chromecast, you also play Netflix, YouTube and many more services straight to your TV screen. It is basically a dongle with a small HDMI cable that you can plug into your TV’s HDMI port. You can browse content on your smartphone or computer and use them as a remote control to play the media on your TV screen.

You will also be required to download the Google Home app on your smartphone to setup Chromecast on your TV. It supports sharing content from apps like YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and more.

Design: Expected to be similar in design to the current 3rd gen Chromecast which is a smooth round disc that connects to your TV via HDMI

Features and Specifications:

  1. Chromecast with Google TV features
  2. Will run Android TV/Google TV
  3. Will allow Google Play app installation
  4. Will support 4K HDR, Dolby Vision, HLG
  5. Google Assistant
  6. Smart home control
  7. Stadia support
  8. Chromecast Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity
  9. It’s said that it will be powered by Amlogic S905X2 hardware, common in Android TV devices.

What’s New?

Remote control:
One add-on that sets the new Chromecast Sabrina apart from its previous versions is the new remote. The new remote control frees users from having to use their personal devices. In order to use the remote control, it is very obvious that there will be an interface to use the remote on. The hints us towards the next add on

Android TV:

If new rumors are accurate, the new Chromecast will run Android TV — although that might in turn be rebranded to Google TV. This will allow direct access to entertainment apps. A leaked video shows a new user interface for Android TV on the device, so we suspect it will push out a new content-based focus.
It’s also reported that it will run a new version of Android TV that elevates content outside of apps, to make discovery a more natural experience.
So far, Chromecast has only been a link between your TV and online content, relying on a separate device to control it — your phone or laptop for example. With the introduction of the new remote control and android TV, it gets much closer in the race with Amazon Fire Stick

Google Stadia compatible:

From leaked code, we’ve also learned that it will support a low-latency gaming mode, able to switch TVs supporting the function to game mode over HDMI 2.1. That might suggest that Sabrina is going to support Stadia, so you can directly switch to Google’s gaming platform.

Checking the Stadia FAQ page reveals the following statement:

“Currently, any Google Chromecast Ultra is compatible with Stadia. You will also need a Stadia Controller and access to Stadia in order to play with Chromecast Ultra. Stay tuned for future announcements regarding additional device compatibility.”

The last line might create the possibilities for the new Chromecast with Stadia capabilities

Price: $49.99 or $59

Possibly coming at the Google Launch Event 2020:

  1. Cheap Nest Wi-Fi
  2. Pixel Watch(Very unlikely)
