Yongnuo is releasing the YN43 Smartphone Camera Module that attaches to your phone via two clips. Inside the module is a Micro Four Thirds camera sensor. A camera lens would attach to the other end of the module with a Canon EF or EF-S mount.

Once the phone is attached, you link it to the device via Wi-Fi and it acts like your phone normally would when it’s connected to a camera by wireless. Your phone can essentially become a mirrorless camera with the addition of this module.

PetaPixel looked at the app in the iTunes store and found that there are two modes: capture and playback. “It appears you can adjust important exposure parameters while shooting the camera,” according to the article.

This is not the first time we’ve seen devices like this. The Sony QX1 and QX30 did the same thing back in 2014, but have essentially gone out of use. These devices seem to be impractical since you have to have a lens/buy a lens and you have to buy the few hundred dollar device. If you’re willing to spend that much on a device like this, why not put the money towards an actual camera since it will still be bulky as well.

No pricing or release dates have been released for YN43 yet.
