An Appeal to Help Security Officers
Do you work at large tech or bio-tech company in the South Bay or know someone who does?
If so, then maybe you can help us out.
The invisible workforce of Silicon Valley’s tech companies clean our offices, prepare and serve our food, drive our shuttles, and keep our offices safe and secure. But, their jobs are anything but secure, and their wages are often insufficient for living in the Bay Area.
As workers in tech, we need to stand up and support those who work alongside us.
Security officers in Silicon Valley are attempting to unionize for living wages, better working conditions, and respect on the job. Unfortunately, many officers at several large companies are currently unaware of the organizing effort. Furthermore, the companies where they work are making it difficult for organizers to merely talk to their security officers. We are partnering with SEIU-USWW to reach out to security officers at these companies to let them know that their fellow workers are trying to organize.
That’s where you come in.
We want to find employees at these companies who simply are willing to make contact with their security officers, letting them know that others are trying to organize, and as a result, giving them a chance to participate.
If you are interested in helping us get in touch with your security officer or have questions, please let us know as soon as you can. Don’t know what to say to your security officer? Don’t worry. We are organizing a brief training session on Thursday, December 1 to give you the tools you’ll need.
Small actions can make a big difference. Please considering doing this small thing for your co-workers.
Thanks, and have a happy Thanksgiving!
