About Late bloomers, multiple interests and a slow, steady approach to life.

The dilemma of interest in too many things

I have a problem. I am interested in too many things. I want to achieve too many things at the same time. Trying to do too many things simultaneously paralyzes me. In the end, there is no note-worthy progress in any thing. Does it ring a bell?

Well, if it does , I have a solution. Prioritize.

Find happiness in the fact that your interests are so many that you’ll never be bored in life. Have faith that you’ll have a long life. And this year choose x of the n things that haunt your mind the most. Period.

The Ticking Clock and why it shouldn’t bother you

Torschlusspanik (German) — Gate-closing panic, or the fear of diminishing opportunities as one ages is what everyone experiences at the onset of a new year. Whether you are in your 20’s, 30’s , 40’s or 50’s, you are evaluating your life and preparing a report card in your mind about how you fared till now. Many who are young expect to be impact makers and change makers too soon. The startup scene has enabled the young to finally take things in their hands and shape their own destinies. But not everyone is privileged enough to leave their mundane jobs and follow their passion.

To those people, I would say, what’s the hurry?

If you feel stuck in your job, sure, try to get out of it for an opportunity that promises growth and learning. But, in case even that’s not happening, why don’t you just relax. Be patient. Wait for the right time! Why don’t you reflect and find out your core values. Before throwing away everything you have been working towards, in what would look like few moments of frustration in hindsight, why can’t we just be patient? Your life isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon.

Remember the story of the hare and the tortoise? What was the lesson?

Slow and Steady wins the race!

Of Prodigies & Late Bloomers

We have heard too many stories of prodigies and early achievers. Let’s focus on late bloomers for a change.

What’s common among Martha Stewart, Julia Child, Vera Wang and Charles Darwin? All of them achieved fame and recognition at an older age. Colonel Sanders’ KFC story is legendary. Yet we fail to learn from it.

We have to keep striving towards our goals irrespective of failures and setbacks. Keep pushing your limits and with enough persistence and grit, we will achieve our goals.

I recently read a story of a man who’s learning to code at 56. It was inspiring and a breath of fresh air. It was a reminder to relax a bit. That you will be able to do everything you want, over the years, but maybe not at the same time.

Listen to Time Ferris podcast with Kevin Kelly , there is some sound advice there about thinking hard before giving up what we have due to our impatience.

Giving up on your goals because it’s too hard isn’t an option, if you ever want to achieve what you have set your heart and mind to. Try new approaches and ask for help from people. And then start again.

In a nutshell, Just “ Keep Doing it”.
