Today, Waymo announced their self driving cars are hitting the streets — with no one behind the wheel. Previously, all Waymo vehicles had a test-driver inside the car just-in-case. The future is finally here.

If you’ve never heard of Waymo, they’re the brainchild of Alphabet (Google) and have been developing autonomous vehicles for almost eight years. Their vehicles have more than 3.5 million miles of autonomous travel on public roads and hundreds of millions of miles of autonomous travel in simulations.

Want to ride in Waymo?

If you happen to live in the Phoenix metro area, you‘re in luck. Waymo is currently accepting applicants for their early rider program. The goal of this program is to find local residents with diverse backgrounds and give them access to Waymo vehicles every day, at any time, to go (nearly) anywhere.

You can apply here. The website states they’ll hopefully be expanding soon!
