Joshua Encarnacion: Head of People Development at Outco & Co-Founder of Outcolor. Diversity or Nah?

If you’ve ever watched the Wayans Bros. Show then you’ll know where the above picture comes from. When I sat down with Joshua Encarnacion, current Head of People Development at Outco, this is exactly how I felt.
I felt like I had connected with a long lost brother. We chatted about the importance of black & brown talent in tech, the power of community and how “knowing thyself” is the most important step in any job search.

In the words of Josh, “We’re here, We’re loud, We’re proud and We’re making a difference.” If you vibe with any of that head on over to Soundcloud and give this episode a listen.

The TLDR:
- Josh was diagnosed with a rare heart condition that sidelined him after a 1 year of collegiate football. He speaks about how this obstacle was a blessing in disguise.
- Why should Google give a shit about diversity? — While at Google Josh was 1 0f 5 people of color on a 32 person recruiting team. He speaks about how companies can solve their lack of diversity.
- Josh gives his 3 step process on finding a job in tech!
- How Outcolor is striving to help black and brown talent thrive in tech
- He’s also gave a TEDx talk in 2015 so if you want to learn more about his story you can listen here.
If you want to learn more about Outco just visit their site.

I can honestly say I’ve never been prouder to connect with another person of color that’s truly inspiring others and making waves in the tech industry.
YO JOSH….I APPRECIATE YOU!
