The TechEquity Collaborative is a startup organization that educates and activates tech workers who think the Bay Area’s tech-driven economy can and should work for everyone. We believe the tech industry can be a force for broad-based opportunity rather than displacement and inequality. We focus on three issue areas: housing, workforce development, and access to technology. And we activate our community in three areas: awareness-raising, volunteer opportunities, and advocacy campaigns.

The Communications Manager position is the first dedicated communication and content role on our small but mighty team. This position is an opportunity to help shape our public image and own content strategy and creation for the organization. The Communication and Content Manager will report to the Program Director but work closely with the Executive Director and Advocacy Director to support the content needs of our advocacy work as well. The ideal candidate is a go-getter, who isn’t afraid to take initiative and bring their own creative ideas to the table.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing our event series, including scheduling, logistics, promotion and creating content during and after events
  • Managing our social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram including scheduling and writing posts
  • Managing our other online assets including our website and blog
  • Creating original content to help drive marketing and policy advocacy goals such as writing blog posts, designing graphics, and producing informational materials to increase engagement
  • Working closely with the Program Director to shape and implement new programs with beautiful and engaging content
  • Working closely with the Executive Director to produce thought pieces, grant proposals and reports, and other longer written content

Candidates must:

  • believe in, and feel comfortable articulating, TechEquity’s mission and values.
  • have at least three years of communications, content management, content marketing or other relevant work experience.
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including being able to share a portfolio of content.
  • be fluent with social media tools.
  • be willing to do grunt work when required.
  • enjoy working as part of a team.
  • have some familiarity with the Tech sector.
  • be detail-oriented.
  • thrive working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • live in, or be willing to relocate to, the Bay Area.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in local politics and public policy
  • Experience supporting programs around affordable housing, workforce development or CSR
  • Proficiency in Adobe CS
  • Working knowledge or experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Experience with WordPress sites

TechEquity is a very young startup with high growth potential. The person serving in this position needs to be excited to get in on the ground floor of a new organization and able to roll with the dynamism that entails. This means being open to fluidity, being willing to jump in and do the necessary even if it isn’t in the job description, and being passionate about building the organization in partnership with the founding team.

This is a (competitive) salaried position and comes with full health and dental benefits.

TechEquity values diversity. We especially encourage people from communities underrepresented in the tech industry, and Bay Area natives, to apply for this role.

To apply for this role, please send a resume and cover letter to info[at]techequitycollaborative.org.
