What is the one thing that’s the most exciting thing about working at LogMeIn?

At LogMeIn, we are tasked with simplifying how people connect. Because technology is constantly evolving, we are always standing at the forefront of technological evolution. As leaders in this space, we want to ensure that technological change is held to the highest standards possible. We are creating tools here that don’t presently exist so that as the world advances, we are ready to tackle even more complex problems. It’s an exciting time to be at any software company, but it is an especially spectacular time to be at a firm like LogMeIn where holding technology to a higher standard exists.

What are some of the traits you look for in a hire?

We believe hiring great talent is crucial to the growth and sustainability of any company. When we interview technical candidates, we look for 50% cultural attributes and 50% technical attributes. For cultural traits, we measure candidates on Commitment to Learning, Accountability, Intellectual Capacity, Passion, Lightness of Spirit, and Judgment. We put all technical candidates through an exercise with a member of the interview team. The technical exercise is meant to be solved as a team because we solve the world’s challenges as a team.

What are some of the biggest ways LogMeIn has changed since its founding?

LogMeIn was established in both Boston and Budapest in 2003 when our co-founder was tired of driving into the office at 3AM to reset the servers at his current company. Trying several remote access solutions, he was dissatisfied with what was out there and pioneered a new form of remote connectivity — one that was simpler, faster and more secure. And that is how LogMeIn was born. Today, LogMeIn boasts more than 1100 employees and has grown to become one of the world’s leading SaaS companies! We’ve done that by focusing on and disrupting some of today’s most transformative technology markets, including the Collaboration space, Customer Engagement space, the Identity and Access Management space, and the Internet of Things space. Offices now span the globe, from Boston, to San Francisco, to Dublin, London, Bangalore, and Sydney. And, of course, Budapest.

What are some of the ways LogMeIn will continue to anchor itself in the Boston tech/innovation community? What are some of LogMeIn’s goals in the Boston innovation community?

We’re big believers in fostering innovation amongst our employees and the local community. An example of this is our annual Hackathon’s where employees team up and work for a week solely on their project and present it to a panel of judges. Many of these winners have been either built into our products or introduced as new offerings. In fact, our Rescue Lens product came from our very first Hackathon. Additionally, one of our core beliefs is that transforming the world begins with each of us giving back. We host a CoderDojo programming club at our new Boston headquarters where local developers come together to teach coding skills and how to be creative with technology to hundreds of local kids. As we continue to grow as a company, especially in Boston, we plan on continuing to support local tech organizations such as MassTLC and MITX.
