Google has officially added support for iOS for its Android Wear platform. Android Wear is Google’s smartwatch operating system and is used by many smartwatches such as the Asus Zenwatch, Motorola Moto 360, etc… Uptill now, all android smartwatches were only supported on Android devices.

Google however has worked hard to bring support for the iOS platform. While the addition may not be the most convenient or sophisticated, it does allow some basic features for the watch to function. Now you can get notifications right on your wrist from your iPhone. The watch will also acknowledge your current notifications settings on your iPhone so apps for which notifications are disabled will not pop up on your watch as well. You can also use your watch with fitness apps, set fitness goals, measure your heart rate and track your progress. And finally it will also notify you on important updates such as your appointments, traffic information and flight status. You can also modify or customize your watch phase but you cannot install applications onto your watch.

Apart from all this, the watch also contains first party standalone Google applications such as Google Now and Hangouts. The version supported is iOS 8.2 or higher with devices from the iPhone 5 all the way to the current iPhone 6 plus. Google also states that the Huawei Watch, LG Watch Urbane and the new Moto 360 will support the iOS platform in addition to Android.
