Imagine a world where everything is connected, this concept paves the way to the Internet of Things (IoT). What would you do if you want to share information with another person, you send emails, messages, letters, etc. When a person shares some known details with another person via the internet, it is known as the Internet of people (person-to-person communication) in the same way when a thing or device transfers information to another thing via the internet is known as the Internet of Things.

In technical terms, The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a system of interrelated, internet-connected objects that can collect and transfer data over a wireless network without human intervention.

IoT is influencing our lifestyle from the way we react to the way we behave. IoT is a giant network with connected devices, these devices gather and share data about how they are habituated and the environment in which they are regulated. It’s all done using sensors that are embedded in every physical device, these sensors continuously emit data about the working state of the device.

But the important question is how do they share this huge amount of data? IoT has a common platform for all these devices to dump the data.

How does it work?

Data is emitted from various sensors and sent to IoT platforms securely. IoT platform integrates the collected data from various sources further analytics is performed on the data and valuable information is extracted as per requirement. Finally, the result is shared with other devices for a better user experience.

Example of IoT:

A real-time example of IoT is Smart Home. The home can be called smart when it has a range of smart devices that you can control remotely by setting them the way you like. Internet and IoT technologies have been used to connect various devices (including lighting systems, temperature regulation, curtain control, surveillance & security system, audio and video equipment, computer and communication equipment, kitchen appliances, alarm clock, cleaning, etc.). Users can control these devices remotely through mobile phones, tablets, and touchscreen panels, super convenient to manage between your daily routines and other smart home devices. For instance, the lights can turn on the moment you enter the home (lamps will know it from the sensors). The moment your car leaves the parking lot near the office, the conditioner starts cooling your house so that after a hot day you could enter a pleasantly cool home. As the human senses everything with their sense organs which sends information to the brain to help us understand and perceive the world around us, In the same way, things or devices use a sensor to detect external information, replacing it with a signal that humans and machines can distinguish. But the true magic starts when IoT (Internet of Things) joins this team. It provides all the devices with internet access which broadens the possibilities of such a home network. IoT applications allow you to connect devices and let them communicate without human participation.

Applications of IoT:

  • Smartphones
  • Smart City
  • Self Driven cars
  • TeleHealth
  • Farming
  • Smart Grids

Pros and cons of IoT:

IoT or the Internet of Things is a trending topic today and can be heard on the lips of every techie. It is a common thing that many individuals are using it and their entire day-to-day life is dependent on it. Apart from all the path-breaking discoveries, IoT has its own set of pros and cons.

Advantages:

  • Wireless technologies turn cities into smart cities.
  • Business benefits.
  • Increased productivity.
  • Eases Communication.
  • Easy access.
  • Better Time Management.

Seriously, IoT makes our life easier.

Disadvantages:

  • Complexity.
  • Privacy or security.
  • Lesser employment.
  • Technology takes control of life.

We can not overlook its cons. It is time that we should look over the ways to combat its disadvantages and tap on the right points to make this technology work the best for you.

(PS: RELAX, NO VIOLENCE)

Conclusion:

From this blog, we learned that IoT is redefining our lifestyle and transforming the way we interact with technologies. It’s up to you how wisely you are controlling your living and working environment by the dominance of IoT-enabled smart products. And at the same time, you can not ignore the cons of IoT. We really should be careful with Technology to avoid any unprecedented disaster in the future.
