Does the Mac deserve Apple Pencil support?

Magic Trackpad could be the solution

Macs today benefit from a great interplay between hardware and software. The transition from Intel processors to Apple’s proprietary Silicon solution has been a major contributor to this, making it even better. Although Apple’s computers are above average in terms of software, there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Therefore, various suggestions for improvements are often floated among Apple fans, including the addition of a touchscreen, improvements to some native apps, and Apple Pencil support.

Apple Pencil on Mac

In theory, Apple Pencil support for the Mac might not be bad, or rather for MacBooks. Graphic designers and designers who have relied on graphics tablets, for example, could especially benefit from this feature. But adding support for such dimensions isn’t just a matter of a software update — such a change would require some development and funding.

The panel itself would have to change to respond to touch. In practice, we’d get a MacBook with a touchscreen, which we all know is unrealistic. Apple has addressed this issue, and the result of testing was that a laptop with a touchscreen is not exactly two times as pleasant to use. But what about doing it a little differently?

In this respect, the Californian giant could build on the already established graphic tablets, which enjoy considerable popularity among the target group. They offer precision and greatly simplify the work. Moreover, when we think about it, Apple already has everything it needs in theory — it has both the Apple Pencil and the Trackpad, which could serve as a base in this respect. Force-touch, the technology that makes the trackpad responsive to pressure, could also be a huge advantage.

Apple Pencil as a graphics tablet

Now the question is how much change Apple would have to make to turn its trackpad combined with the Apple Pencil into a reliable and practical graphics tablet. As we said above, at first glance, it may already seem to have everything it needs. But nothing is as simple as it may seem at first glance. Whether we’ll ever see something like this is in the stars, but this speculation seems unlikely. Virtually no legitimate source has ever reported on it.
