It’s hard to find a person among technology fans who have never heard of Geekbench, a performance measurement tool for smartphones, tablets and computers. Without any exaggeration, it is by far the most used tool for this activity, which plays a very important role both in the release of de facto every new hardware with which it is compatible, to reveal its performance, but also after system updates to see how the performance of the device is affected by these updates.

The most recent version of this tool was Geekbench 5, released in 2019. However, that is now finally changing. That’s because a little while ago, the developers at Primate Labs Inc. released Geekbench 6, and it’s for all the platforms that the previous versions were for — including iOS and macOS, among others.

You can see screenshots of the iOS version below this paragraph. In addition to the new design of the app, which seems relatively austere, at least “at first glance”, according to the developers, we have seen several important upgrades and optimizations “under the hood”, which have one goal — to reveal as accurately as possible how the phones are doing in terms of performance.

Therefore, we can expect a wave of new performance tests on existing hardware in the coming weeks and months, aimed at revealing both how Geekbench 5 differs from Geekbench 6 in terms of scores, but more importantly, how smartphones, tablets and laptops actually perform.

So we can only hope that Geekbench 6 will indeed bring a lot of interesting new findings that will allow users to get an even better “understanding” of where their hardware really stands. And beware, unlike the previous version of Geekbench, which was initially chargeable, the new Geekbench 6 has been free since its initial release.
