Could Odion Ighalo Become Manchester United’s Best African Player?
Nigerian ex-striker, Odion Ighalo, who made his debut at Manchester United on Monday, February 17, 2020 against Chelsea — after a six-month loan deal from China’s Shanghai Greenland Shenhua announced on February 1, 2020 — has scored 3 goals in 7 appearances for the English club in all competitions, two goals ahead of Côte d’Ivoire’s Eric Bailly who has featured in 78 games for the club since joining in July 2016.
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer became the first Nigerian player to represent England’s most successful football club, and the 7th African footballer to be signed to play for the club, over the past two decades. Although Ighalo is yet to score in the Premier League, after coming on as a substitute in 4 appearances to date, he is currently the clubs most successful African player (in terms of goals scored) yet, after South Africa’s Quinton Fortune.
But could he become Manchester United’s best African player ever?
