MTN is testing its 5G technology across Nigeria

South African telecom giant, MTN is embarking on a Fifth Generation (5G) mobile network trial across several Nigerian cities, including Abuja, Calabar and Lagos to showcase the capabilities of the technology’s potential to enable economic growth and social inclusion.

The company, which is utilizing trial spectrum allocated to it by the country’s communications regulator, says it is collaborating with the Ministry of Communications Technology and Digital Economy (MCTDE), the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Huawei, ZTE and Ericsson to trial 5G technology and applications.

In addition to the three cities, the 5G trial will run for three months in four additional cities across the country.

Back in August 2019, Nigeria’s communications regulator announced the approval of a dedicated spectrum for trial deployment of Fifth Generation (5G) services in the country.
