Naspers-backed start-up fund invests $2 million into South Africa’s SweepSouth

SweepSouth, a South African-based cleaning services platform has received R30 million ($2.1 million) from Naspers Foundry, the R1.4 billion start-up fund owned by Africa’s largest company, Naspers.

Founded in 2014 by Aisha Pandor and Alen Ribec, SweepSouth, which connects clients to pre-vetted cleaners across major cities in South Africa, has seen exceptional growth of the business, creating jobs for more than 10,000 people, according to Naspers.

Bob van Dijk, Naspers CEO says the company aims “to announce more backing for South African start ups in the coming months”, as it continues to invest in its existing operations in South Africa, including Takealot, Superbalist, Mr D Food, OLX, Autotrader SA, Property24, and Media24.

The fund, which aims to support South African technology start-ups seeking to address big societal needs, marks Naspers Foundry’s first investment since its announcement in October 2018.
