Travelstart takes over Jumia Travel’s core operations in new partnership
In a deal that sees it become the exclusive distribution partner of Jumia Travel, South African online travel agency, Travelstart is looking to expand its operations across Africa.
The news, which broke earlier today, suggested that the company would be taking over the operations of the Africa-focused online travel booking platform.
According to a statement made available to Techloy, “Travelstart will take control of the sales, fulfilment and customer service aspects of Jumia Travel online booking websites in all its operating territories.”
The statement further cited Joe Falter, Jumia’s EVP, On-Demand Services, saying that while the company “will continue to promote the travel category, Travelstart will be responsible for the operational side of the business.”
“This partnership will ensure we remain hyper-focused on our growth and path to profitability as we reinvest our resources in our key markets, services and technology to create the best customer experience in Africa and allow Jumia to thrive,” Falter added.
Travelstart believes that the partnership will help more than 12,000 daily travellers that use its platform in Africa to unlock high quality online travel services, according to CEO Stephan Ekbergh.
