Sometimes, it’s easy to navigate life when there’s someone with you.

Likewise, in the world of tech marketing, it gets easier when there’s someone who can help you figure out how to make sense of all the marketing trends, technologies, channels, and terminologies.

It gets better when someone is there to guide you, provide insights, aid your development and you know, make the marketing road less bumpy.

This is exactly why we put out our applications for ‘Mentor a Marketer’ Cohort 3in February 2023 for both mentees and mentors which finally kicked off in March 2023.

Mentor a Marketer wasn’t just designed as a regular mentorship program where we created a platform for both mentors and mentees.

Ours was more intentional, providing the opportunity for mentees to connect in meaningful ways with a mentor whose experience can help them navigate careers in tech marketing.

‘Mentor a Marketer’ mentorship program is a career growth program designed specifically to pair experienced and trained individuals in different marketing fields and beginners who need guidance from mentors in marketing.

Although we had over 70 applicants for the mentees and over 10 mentors, our keen and rigorous screening made us say goodbye to some applicants. As a result, we kicked off Cohort III with only 33 mentees and 9 mentors.

Upon the screening followed by the onboarding, we created different marketing tracks, placing mentees and mentors under each track, a total of 4 mentees to 1 mentor. The marketing tracks include

  • Community Management
  • Content Marketing
  • Growth Marketing
  • Performance Marketing
  • Product Marketing

Because we were intentional about this mentorship program, we put different strategies in place to make sure the learning was easy, consistent, and seamless. Some of these strategies include:

  • Learning scheme- This learning scheme was designed as a well-detailed curriculum for mentors and mentees containing all the learning resources for each specified track. This curriculum made it easy to keep track of the learning process which was reviewed by our team before the mentorship program started.
  • Mentees and Mentors’ responsibilities- Sometimes, expectations hurt. But not in our mentorship program. We figured that it’s not enough to assume everyone knows what they’re doing. Therefore, at TMH, we made sure we outlined every responsibility of a mentor and mentee in the program to know what is expected of them, how to behave and what they need to accomplish. It also served as a form of accountability.
  • Person of Contact (POC)- Still on intentionality, we were keen on ensuring a seamless mentorship program by helping mentees and mentors overcome any blockers during the program. How did we do this? By making sure members of the TMH core team served as intermediaries between TMH and the participants.
  • Evaluation program- Since the mentorship program was for only a month, we decided to follow up with the program through a weekly evaluation program. The purpose was for them to give feedback about the learning program and incorporate the feedback to make the program better for everyone.
  • Mentees and Mentors call- At the beginning of the program, there was an onboarding call to officially welcome the participants into the mentorship program, providing clarity about the program and creating an avenue for them to get to know each other. Also, at the end of the mentorship program, there was a call where we engaged the mentors and mentees on what they have learnt, their feedback, concerns, worries and remarkable moments. We also gave them additional tips on how to stay relevant in their fields and of course, never to stop learning.
  • Mentees Project- One of the key requirements for mentees to graduate and get their certificates was for them to complete their capstone project in their respective fields. This was for them to practise in real life what they learnt according to their tracks and create something that will be useful for their portfolio. Just like a popular mantra says, ‘Walk the Talk’.

One of the highlights of our mentorship program involved the top 5 best-performing mentees getting free copies of an ebook, ‘The Growth Handbook: Scaling Fintech in Nigeria’ by our one and only Growth and Marketing expert, Olabinjo Adeniran.

In addition, He also offered discounts on his book to all the other mentees in our program. This is to make sure that every mentee gets a chance to benefit from practical insights in growth marketing.

We would also like to take this opportunity to invite individuals or organizations who are interested in partnering with us on this program or sponsoring our activities to reach out to us.

If you have any inquiries or proposals, please do not hesitate to send an email to our official email address — techmarketershub@gmail.com

We are eager to explore collaborative opportunities and welcome any support that can further enhance the impact of our mentoring initiative.

Whew! The journey has indeed been both exciting and remarkable. For the mentors who sacrificed their time for a whole month, for the mentees striving to work at their full potential and for their commitment. For the members of the TMH core team who were always present to make sure the program was a success, handling all the internal activities efficiently.

It was not an easy journey but it was worth every bit of it. Also, we can’t wait to do it again, and this time, even better!
