Notes — SiriusDecisions Summit 2016

I joined a crowd in Nashville this year for the SiriusDecisions Summit, their annual sales and marketing conference, where many predictions are levied yet questions are verboten. So you sit through sessions, talks, case presentations and at the end of each session, that’s it. No, “any questions?” from the moderator. Just over.

To me, putting smart sales and marketing people in one place yet disallowing questions and exchanges quashes the spirit of such a gathering.

So I did not just complain. I reached out to our rep and inquired as to why questions are not allowed. To which the answer was, “…interesting question. Not sure why they are not allowed. I’ve not heard that asked.”

So I wonder if SiriusDecisions, as an analyst firm, has to have the final word.

The opportunity to engage and have participation from the thousands of attendees is the big, missed opportunity here.

If I attend next year, I sincerely hope that they rethink this approach.

Otherwise, the event was educational and productive. I just left with many unanswered questions.
