The email campaigns, pop-ups, and social media strategies of today may be made to seem as naive and primitive as the newspaper listings of yesteryear.

There is something almost freightening by the speed of development. And who hasn’t been alarmed by the prescience of a Facebook advert? We recoil at the thought of our data been harvested but have become accustomed to personal and accurate Netflix recommendations. In the near future, the brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) from Elon Musk and his Neuralink corporation might make it possible for direct advertising piped straight into our consciousness.
