How did you end up here?

You’re stuck at a demanding and stressful job. One so demanding, your only desire when you get home is to binge-watch Netflix. One that’s become infested with political correctness. You can’t express yourself authentic self, and it’s sapping your creativity. You follow idiotic policies and ideas out of social pressure. And if you don’t, you risk having your reputation tarnished, or losing your job.

You were once in love with what you did for a living, but now…things have changed. You have changed. And your soul hates it.

You rationalize to yourself how impractical it is to leave your career. After all, you’ve been at it for over a decade. But, you daydream about starting your own business. Being in your own power, speaking your truth. Being your own boss, and pursuing a longstanding passion project. You daydream about freedom.

You want to listen to your inner guidance, but feel it isn’t logical. Quitting your job? Your career? Yet, your soul beckons you forward.

What’s the story behind your story?

I’ll take a stab at it: fear.

Your soul demands you take risks. But you, are afraid.

A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for — John A. Shedd

Your relationship with fear is the problem

Your current relationship with fear makes you weak. You’ve attached to the illusion of control by staying at a practical job with a salary, and life insurance. It makes you feel safe and in control. Yet, where has that led you?

If the path before you is clear, you are on the wrong path — Carl Jung

The reason you feel stuck is because you don’t believe in yourself. You haven’t developed a good relationship with your soul. You haven’t self-inquired deeply enough to know what your soul wants from you. And you haven’t the courage to listen to her. There is no creative spark in your life. In fact, there is hardly any life in your life.

If you knew yourself clearly, this would be a no-brainer. Why? Because you’d trust your inner wisdom. You’d affirm yourself, and summon the inner resources to have your own back when necessary.

It takes more courage to examine the dark corners of your own soul than it does for a soldier to fight on a battlefield -William Butler Yeats

How to get unstuck

Where your fear is, there your task is — Carl Jung

Put fear behind you, rather than in front of you

Right now, fear is in front of you: you are afraid of making the wrong choice. Put fear behind you, and utilize it to propel you on your journey forward. Consider what the worse possible future could look like if you don’t leave your job.

We pay a price for everything we do and don’t do. Articulate this as clearly as you can and feel into it. You may think staying at your job is the safe and secure thing to do. What’s the true cost of sitting for eight hours in a chair filling out inanimate, lifeless, excel sheets for corporate elites who don’t give a fuck about you? What’s the true price you’re paying? Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually speaking?

I love fear. Fear is my friend -Mike Tyson

Let fear guide you

Find out what you fear, and take one tiny, tiny step in that direction. You will know exactly what step that is, because your fear will point you to it.

Take a look at where your parents were stuck

Reflect on these questions: where was your mother stuck in her own life? Where was your father stuck? How is that related to where I’m stuck in my life right now?

The greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of their parents — Carl Jung

Get in integrity

You hate your job because you aren’t in integrity. Integrity means being whole and undivided. It means there is no conflict between body, mind, heart, and soul. What you are thinking, feeling, and doing are all in alignment with each other. When we’re out of integrity we suffer, because it hurts not being ourselves.

where wisdom reigns there is not conflict between thinking and feeling — Carl Jung

The anointed PC police at your job do the best they can to keep you out of integrity. Rather, you’ve intuited it isn’t safe to be in integrity and preemptively disconnect from your deepest truths for a paycheck. You are selling out your soul for money.

To get unstuck, get back in integrity. Create harmony between what you think, feel, and do. Tell the truth. Stay what you mean, mean what you say.

Modern man don’t see God, because they don’t look low enough -Carl Jung

If you recognized who you are at the deepest level, being in integrity would be the logical conclusion to the rest of your life.
