How Grammarly Can Ruin Your Writing

Don’t let it replace you as an editor

I’m not here to throw disses at Grammarly; it’s a great app. But the problem isn’t with the app’s capabilities.

The problem is with the way we use it.

It’s tailored to correct your writing and give you suggestions to boost your readability. But it’s working more than teaching, and that’s where the line should be drawn.

When you write and leave things for Grammarly to fix, you immediately eliminate the need to become a better writer. You become slower since you are constantly interrupted by the error underlining, and you become reliant.

Plus, it makes you lose confidence in your writing by making it seem like you don’t know how to write properly. But keep this in mind:

Many of the greatest of writers get 20+ errors also.

Can you imagine? 20+

Last week I wanted to see how well other famous writers were writing, only to find out they make the same number of mistakes we make. Try it yourself; copy and paste an article from a writer you admire and see how many mistakes their writing has according to Grammarly.

It Doesn’t Matter
