2 years ago:

I was publishing random content without missing any day.

Meanwhile, I had no idea what content strategy was.

Every time, I end up questioning: Why am I not getting any results?

1 year ago:

I was trying everything — posting consistently, engaging in 100s of profiles, and messaging people.

Still, a big NO hit on my face every time.

This year:

My clients gained 3 to 5 leads every month including speaking and podcast opportunities.

I got a job from a Netherland-based agency. I neither approached nor gave any interview.

All because I built my presence and personal brand on LinkedIn.

Here’s how I did it:

1) Have a Leasure focus on ICP

First and foremost, define your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP).

When you want sales from content, you must know what’s your content message and whom you are talking to.

Before creating content, I open this Google sheet. Now, it helps me avoid getting distracted and write what matters, keeping a sharp eye on my ICP.

Answer yourself and write:

  • The level of your clients
  • Dream client
  • Their goals & Aspirations
  • Challenges
  • Objections/Fears
  • Mistakes
  • False beliefs and myths
  • Emotions — where and how are they stuck?
  • Where and why they are stuck.
  • What are their current troubles?

When your content highlights any of the above aspects, your content is for the 1% that is your audience, not for all.

Your ideal clients picture themselves in your content when they come across it.

They feel how well you know them. And reach out to you.

That’s what you want.

2) Have a strong content strategy

Only educational content?

That’s already there on the internet.

Only promotional content?

Sounds like you say loud ‘Buy from me.’

Only personal stories?

Your audience will be unaware of what you bring for them.

So, combine all of these factors in your solid content strategy.

But, how?

Make a fixed ratio and stick to it.

For example:

  • A ratio of 2:2:2–2 educational posts, 2 promotional posts, and 2 personal stories per week.
  • A ratio of 1:1:1–1 educational post, 1 promotional post, and 1 personal story per week.
  • A ratio of 2: 1:1–2 educational posts, 1 promotional post, and 1 personal story per week.

Either you can select any of these or make another ratio based on your priorities and capacity to create content.

3) Not only content but strategic content

That means the content is curated this way that tactfully targets your dream client only.

Examples:

  • Showing your personal story of transformation that your audience craves.
  • Showing your traits and ethics of work through examples — to attract the right people towards you.
  • Story of how you overcome the challenges — indirect reflection of your expertise.

Such strategic content is a combination of personal stories, expertise, and opinion in a single post.

So, strategic storytelling is a magnet to attract your dream clients.

And this applies to all social media platforms beyond LinkedIn.

Why?

Platforms can be different. Human psychology will remain the same across the platforms.

The lesson I learnt besides these strategies is:

Rather than expecting stunning results overnight, focus on the inputs of the process.

The better ingredients you put in, the more delicious results you receive.

The quality of your inputs is in proportion to the quality of your outcomes.

Content and storytelling are the powerhouse.

Leverage them to make your digital presence magnetic to the sales.
