I Wrote 5973 Cold Emails To Land My First Client
4 lessons I learned from the experience
I work mostly with blue-collar businesses and the reason it took me this long is because most of them don’t generally check their mails.
The reason I kept going was that I had decided that I would not stop with the process before I landed a client. It paid off and to this day I use cold emails as a client accusation strategy.
Here are some lessons I learned along the way.
1. Resilience in Rejection:
The sheer volume of cold emails inevitably led to a significant number of rejections.
Yet, through this sea of ‘no’s,’ I discovered the resilience required in the face of rejection.
Each rejection became a stepping stone, teaching me not to fear ‘no’ but to view it as a redirection toward the right opportunity.
2. Refinement of Targeting:
With each email sent, I honed my targeting strategy. Understanding my ideal client profile became crucial.
Analyzing responses, both positive and negative, provided insights into the characteristics of clients who were more likely to resonate with my offerings.
This iterative process refined my targeting and increased the precision of my outreach.
3. Personalization’s Impact:
A key lesson emerged in the power of personalization. Generic emails were often ignored, but personalized messages stood out.
Tailoring each email to the specific needs and challenges of the recipient significantly increased engagement.
This lesson highlighted the importance of investing time in understanding the prospect and crafting messages that resonated personally.
4. Persistence Pays Off:
The journey underscored the significance of persistence.
While initial efforts might not yield immediate results, consistent follow-ups and tenacity proved to be game-changers.
Many positive responses came after multiple touchpoints, emphasizing the importance of staying committed to the outreach process.
Sending the emails was not just a numbers game; it was a profound learning experience.
From building resilience in the face of rejection to refining targeting, recognizing the impact of personalization, understanding the value of persistence, and adopting a data-driven iteration approach.
They are a testament to the transformative power of persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to learn on the path to landing that elusive first client.
