How I ended up writing about my AirPods.

If you want your writing to find a response from your reader you should write about something that matters to you. If it matters to you you’ll have a better chance to convey your message in the clearest and most concise way. The gurus of writing recommend looking inside yourself to find out what exactly that important thing is for you.

Well, I can’t agree more with it.

Today though is one of those days when as I look inside myself I find exactly nothing.

So I turn to the ratio in me — my head.

Carefully searching for ideas I spend hours and hours in a deep focus.

The only result I get is a headache. A headache because despite my best efforts I can’t seem to find anything that would even slightly wake up my interest. Also, I think I am getting a cold which doesn’t really help with a clear thinking.

As a dedicated person, I pay no attention to it and keep pushing.

My goal is to write something useful, inspirational, or at least - entertaining.

I am thinking and I find nothing.

I think harder. I wrinkle my forehead. I look up and then down.

I finally rest my head on my arms.

Nothing.

I stand up and take a turn around the room.

Nothing.

I get some coffee. I check the news. I stare out of the window.

Nothing.

Nothing!

NOTHING.

Nothing but a slight tickle in my ear is that only thing able to grab my attention right now.

The tickle is caused by one of my AirPods — the left one to be precise — that slowly but surely is sliding out of my ear.

I should probably mention now that I usually wear my Airpods with noise cancellation on to filter out the distractions when I am writing.

I automatically adjust it and keep thinking.

“Work… Friends… Balance…” I keep searching through my ideas trying to find a topic that would resonate with my mood today.

Oops! My earphone has just escaped my ear.

I put it back while trying to remember what I was thinking about just before my earphone started to act out.

The sound of the earphone dropping on the hardwood floor didn’t let me finish my thought. Feeling the irritation grow inside me, I crawl under the table to pick up the escapee.

“No, seriously, what’s wrong with it?”

This morning it already tried to escape twice.

Yesterday, I saved it from taking a deep dive into the sink.

I keep returning it to the place where it, apparently, has no intention to stay.

I love my AirPods, I do. Both of them.

I find this product to be particularly well done. It has all that I am looking for in earphones and that’s why I use it a lot.

Slick, lightweight, with a long-lasting battery. Also, a cool distraction for my toddler when nothing else works. Open case, and close the case. Open, close. What more could you wish for?

By the way, in case you might wonder, it’s not a hidden promotion. The content is not sponsored by Apple (I wish!).

I lovingly blow the dust off the AirPods. I clean them carefully. Then I clean my ears. Now, more firmly, I set the earphones where I want them to be —and stay! — my ears.

No. Too deep. I become too aware that they are there.

Damn.

I take both of my earphones out and try to work without them.

Weirdly, the noise from the street becomes more intense than ever before. It seems like all the dogs in the area were waiting just for this moment to start barking. Which apparently woke up all the babies in the area who were tightly sleeping in their strollers just a minute before.

Feeling my frustration reaching its peak, I put the earphones back in to stop this torture.

“I don’t deserve this… Darling, you look perfect tonight” — Ed Sheeran was singing his heart out right into my ears. Apparently, one of the players came back to life after me messing with the AirPods. Hidden among the thousand tabs, I can’t seem to find the one where it is playing. So I end up closing the entire browser.

So. Incredibly. Annoying!!!

Now, if you have made it to this line you might be wondering what’s the point of this writing.

Well, the point is that there does not always need to be a point.

You won’t find a hidden meaning or a lesson for you to remember.

What will I do about that earphone?

Pretty much nothing.

I simply don’t know what else I could do.

If you insist though, here is a little moral of the story:

Sometimes we don’t need to make a fuss out of small things. Even if they irritate us. Especially when they irritate us. Annoyance is not the best thing to feel so spare yourself from it where you can.

The best thing to do is just to get over it and direct your irritation to something more meaningful. Like writing for example. Even if you are writing about some insignificant things like your earphones.

And that’s exactly what I will do now.

Thanks for the reading!
