Everyone comes to Medium for different reasons. Some of us are here to get something off our chest, or to raise awareness (hello An Injustice!- a brilliant publication if you’re here to shout).

Some of us are here because we simply love writing, and many of us are addicted to the autonomy and instant feedback generated by writing online.

And some of us are here because of all of the above.

I’m a single mother in recovery and I’m sick of the shitty stick. I write to get things off my increasingly heavy chest. But mainly I write because it’s pretty much the only thing that keeps me from losing my shit and the only thing I feel any good at.

I love writing and publishing on here, and yes like all of us, I love getting feedback. This week, I received a glowing write up from Julia E Hubbel and it was the only thing that day that put a smile on my face.

These are the reasons I write.

But we’d all be lying if we didn’t mention the money. Knowing we can get some money from our writing, is for all of us another reason to show up here…
