If you end your day thinking about not having enough time to write and publish on Medium, here’s what you need to hear out:

Chances are you are working with the problem of not being consistent in writing when you have so many other things on your table — job, work, and family.

Last year, I dealt with the same when I wanted to write daily but couldn’t.

Now, I’m posting 3X weekly on Medium while handling other aspects of life.

So, here are the 4 habits that have helped me from August 202 to create and publish consistently:

1) Create a system that works for you

Open the blank white screen and spend 30 minutes brainstorming what to write about. When you have ideas, jot them down, not the expected quality output. Don’t doubt your thinking capability and writing skills.

For the last year, I’ve never started with a blank screen when I had already written before writing.

All because of breaking down the process in the following steps:

  • Thinking (Regarding the topic)
  • Ideation and outline of the content on the weekends
  • Writing and editing on alternate days.

This system helped me think more, outline in advance, and write better and consistently.

2) The quality consumption

Skipping the option of courses, I learn to write better by observing others.

For this, I read a lot.

While consuming quality content, I target two shots at once.

The first one is upskilling on the topic regarding the content is written about.

The second is scanning the content while observing the hook line, intro, body, and storytelling to cover the gaps in my writing.

Even before writing, reading is like warming up my mind. That helps to get started at a better point.

The point is when you give better inputs to your mind the higher outcomes you get. The same applies to what you feed your mind to get the content ideas from it.

3) Uncover the layers

My mistake in the very beginning was composing content as the first thought struck.

Problem?

Surace-level content (based on the first idea) that is a norm for your audience and no exercise of your mind to improve your thinking.

What changed now is going beyond that first idea thinking why, how, and what behind that. Then, jot down each thought to craft reading-worthy content.

Writing quality undoubtedly improves when you think more. It’s like the more you deep dive into the sea, the more richness of flora and fauna you get to see.

So, ask yourself questions more to deep in-depth.

4) Keep a check on the data

I missed this point for the initial two years when I was unaware of all the available information — that is the data on your content performance.

And Medium makes it even easier as we receive an email on our weekly content performance.

Those numbers show:

  • Which headline attracted more eyeballs?
  • Which content sticks to them (the reading ratio)?

Analyze this email and other data to know what worked and what did not.

Then, optimize your process leveraging those insights to go in a flow.

You have data. You have information. You know what’s performing and what’s not.

Leverage it.

While talking about tips and ticks, small habits remain underestimated.

But that moves your needle over time.

Habits create a new person into you. Bring the changes you aspire for. Craft your life for the better.

So, supercharge your writing journey by:

  • Creating a writing system.
  • Reading more.
  • Uncovering the layers by thinking more.
  • Tracking the data.
