Confronting emotions while asleep is like a surrealist painting
Over the past several months, I have not had an easy time emotionally. The roller coaster ups and downs have led to insecurity, anxiety, and sadness. These emotions do not rest when I am asleep. I am not an expert in human psychology, but like most people, I can recognize that my dreams manifest my innermost fears and deepest concerns.
Last night I had a restless sleep. I woke up three times throughout the night and viewed the clock on my nightstand stating 1:20 AM, 3:30 AM, and 5:04 AM. Luckily sleep would follow each stirring. The morning slumber just before being fully awake would have the oddest, most surreal dreams.
The Surrealist art movement arose after the horrific and dreadful sights and sounds of World War I. Surrealism challenged conventional reality and explored the unconscious mind. They depicted dreamlike scenes and ideas.
According to an article by Sotheby’s, modern life served as the primary target for Surrealists. Their art was revolutionary in mind and spirit but also steeped in the language of art history.
