Are you a beginner writer struggling to figure out a writing niche?
This simple 3-step framework will save you hours of nerve-racking research.
Step 1: What do you enjoy writing?
Before starting to write, list all your favorite topics.
- you can write on these topics for years
- you don’t need external motivation
- did you get a response on this topic from the audience?
Once you have a solid list, hop into the next step.
Step 2: Which topics did you get audience response?
Write a few content pieces on the subject you finalized in the previous step.
Create a variety of content format
- Social media post/thread
- Shortform content (150–300 words)
- Long-form content
Once you have published these contents in the writing and social media platform, do the below task.
Wait and watch
Observe which topics got responses from the audience.
It can be likes, comments, reposts, or views.
The numbers will tell you which topics resonated more with the audience.
Next, ask yourself this question.
Do you enjoy writing those topics that got more responses?
It is perfectly fine if you do not like it even if the data shows that the audience has more inclination towards these topics.
For instance, you might enjoy writing about writing techniques.
However, the data indicates that your audience is more interested in learning how to monetize their writing.
Step 3: Which topics do you enjoy writing and get audience response?
If the data shows that monetizing from writing is popular then your job is to create content that teaches the audience to write better so that their content starts monetizing quickly.
Your niche topic should satisfy the below two criteria.
- You enjoy writing those topics effortlessly
- The audience loves to read those topics
