Niches.

How can you write in niches when you’re interested in everything?

In the five years I’ve been writing for Medium, I’ve read dozens of articles claiming that you must have a niche to succeed.

I’ve only read about a dozen that declare you don’t need a niche.

And I’ve read the work of many writers who write only about Medium.

So, who’s to believe?

Many authors write on Medium for the pure love and romance of the written word. They could care less if they make money from their work.

I’m guessing that the money is important to many more. At least I’m reading more articles of that variety. Times are tough, and I, for one, am trying to find ways to earn more income.

But Medium never promised us a rose garden. (Neither did Melania.)

The cream is rising on Medium. It’s not easy to have a story be boosted. The stakes are getting higher. We’re all competing for a pool of money each month, and sometimes, what we get doesn’t seem fair for the amount of effort we’ve put into our work.
