Hello! Welcome to Technically Social, the official blog for the Technology & Social Behavior Ph.D. Program at Northwestern University.

Some of the biggest challenges of our time—the proliferation of online misinformation, the implementation of AI ethics, the implications of the gig economy, and more—are sociotechnical. To make progress, society needs to understand the technology, the people, and how they fit together.

As researchers we can contribute to that societal understanding. There’s a ton of great research published every year which we can “translate” so that it’s not quite so esoteric or highly technical. Here we’ll try to make research accessible and applicable to people outside our typical research communities. My belief and hope is that the public will benefit from this.

Whether translating a research project in clear and compelling terms, presenting an essay informed by research, or offering a critical take on what’s going on in the world of technology, we hope to make this an engaging and inviting space to present, explore, and translate new ideas at the intersection of Technology & Social Behavior.
