Assessing Global Wealth Inequality in 2019

Wealth distribution is very relative when it comes down to measuring it across different regions of the World. While you can measure it in absolute terms, a better way is to look at median wealth per adult — which indicates a figure where 50% of all the people have more money than that, and the rest of the 50% have less.

Today’s infographic (below) derives the data from a new report by Swiss multinational investment bank Credit Suisse. The methodology used to calculate the median income has been detailed in the report itself. The resulting picture portrays the stark wealth disparity among different countries of the world.

Some of the basic observations that you can notice at first glance are:

  • Citizens of the developed countries — located mostly in the western hemisphere are the wealthiest.
  • People of Switzerland are the wealthiest in the World with a median wealth of $227.9K per adult.
  • The Caribbean nation of Haiti is the poorest in the World median wealth of only $214 per adult.
