Google claims the uncovering of a massive iPhone hacking effort

Both big techs are at loggerheads over the discovery of the security vulnerability

Apple recently announced that it would pay ethical hackers more than $1 million if they disclosed security vulnerabilities in its systems & reported it to the company. The huge “bug bounty” is an upgrade from the previous maximum of $200,000 which was only offered to select few researchers.

Security vulnerabilities have become hot commodities for tech companies, nefarious players & shady governments alike. The massive bounty program by Apple has been introduced to discourage researchers from exposing the vulnerabilities to black-market players or government clients who intend to use these vulnerabilities for espionage operations.

The bounty amount will depend on the severity of the bug discovered. The million-dollar prize money would be awarded to those who can find a weakness in the kernel — the most secure layer of the iOS operating system. Another 50% of the bonus is awarded to researchers able to find a vulnerability in the pre-release software.
