So many of us are fixated on trying to look at only the economic hardship caused by the pandemic driven lockdown, that we have forgotten the tragedy that has befallen the thousands of families around the world who have lost their loved ones — the death toll has been staggering and it continues to escalate. As for the living, they are left to deal with the financial hardship that stares them in the eye.

These are the low-income earners, people in industries who probably won’t get their jobs back any time soon and small businesses crushed under the debt burden. One thing that stands out for this crisis that it is truly global in nature — healthwise and economically.

While previous downturns were confined to certain regions of the world, the current one is taking place on an unprecedented scale. And that’s why it is so much more difficult to predict its outcome, especially when you don’t know when it’s going to end.
