AI FUTURE
Should we be wary of the “emergent properties” of AI?
Maybe we should get a handle on the uncontrolled AI frenzy before it starts to do some serious damage — beware of the recent developments
It has been a never-ending debate on the ethical implications of the development of AI. This has garnered more support ever since AI growth took off in the wake of the ChatGPT launch. While there’s no denying the benefits that futuristic tech has to offer, we need to tread carefully. Foreseeing the dangers of this relentless AI race, tech entrepreneurs, AI experts, and innovators rang the alarm bells recently. In an open letter, more than 500 people floated the idea of a moratorium on AI development for six months — that is until some rules are devised to govern this wild west of technology.
You see the problem is that as AI systems become more advanced and sophisticated, they are becoming more difficult to understand and predict. This can create risks and uncertainties that are difficult to manage. And regulators eventually might not be able to keep up with the pace of AI development to ensure that AI systems are developed in a way that is safe, ethical, and beneficial to society.
