The creation of Living Skin is another Landmark for 3D-Printing

Complete with blood vessels, the new creation has been successfully tested in animal trials

Researchers have made some great strides in making groundbreaking medical advances in recent times. Although most of these studies are still in trial stages, they still provide great hope for the future of medical treatments — be it the futuristic gene-editing CRISPR tool, Immunotherapy Cancer treatments or development of Artificial blood.

Although skin grafts exist for victims in the Healthcare industry, they don’t really connect with the host cells & eventually fall off providing an unreliable & temporary solution to the problem. Researchers at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York now claim to have 3D-printed skin which comes with complete blood vessels, thus replicating something very similar to our own natural skin.

With the creation of this new skin, a significant barrier in the form of an absence of a functioning vascular system has been removed. Pankaj Karande, the lead researcher had been working to resolve this issue for the past few years.
